Casino Rama in Ontario reopens following ransomware attack

Casino Rama - Ontario, Canada

Following ransomware attacks that led to the sudden shutdown of Gateway Casinos properties in Ontario three weeks ago, Casino Rama reopened its doors on Tuesday.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment shut down operations in all its 14 casinos on April 16, citing state-wide malfunction. Further updates revealed that the entertainment giant was hit by a ransomware attack.

Although the company said no personal data was leaked during the attack, it chose not to disclose any further information regarding the attack, including its source. It is also unclear whether a ransom was paid.

However, while the gaming tables and slot machines at Casino Rama were not in operation following the incident, the hotel remained operational, along with two restaurants and the spa.

Since then, Gateway has been reopening its casinos to the public in a phased manner, beginning with the Innisfil location nearly two weeks ago.

Casino Rama, the last of the company’s 14 Ontario casinos to recommence operations, reopened its gaming floor at 10am on May 10.
