Are you a health nut or a sweet tooth? If you can’t decide you can see which side pays off more when it comes to your bankroll. This two mode title by Microgaming provides players with the chance to enjoy the game for longer – once you get bored of one mode you can switch to the other.
Where to play Fruit vs Candy slots online
Microgaming’s Fruit vs Candy layout and betting limits
Fruit vs Candy features 243 ways to win across 5 reels – all paylines are scrapped. There’s two modes to choose from which you will be asked to pick when opening the game, and you can alternate between the two during the base game.
The coin size ranges from 0.01 to 0.10 with as little as one coin available to play, or as many as 15. This results in the minimum bet available of $/€0.30, while the maximum is $/€225. You can play around with the bet size by clicking the small arrow above the bet size box. We played at Euro Palace, but you may find there’s smaller maximum limits elsewhere.
Autoplay is also located under the reels where you can customise how many spins you want to play automatically, without clicking the spin button. The layout and betting limits are the same in both Fruit and Candy modes, too.
Fruit vs Candy symbols
The symbols you will see lining the reels change depending on the mode you’ve picked, except for the low paying symbols which in both cases see the traditional A-10 symbols – you need at least three of a kind to get a payout – as well as the special feature symbols.
In the Candy mode, the middle to high paying symbols include the assortment of lollies, with the lowest payout of the symbols being the pink jelly bean and the highest offered by the red lollipop. In the Fruit mode you will find grapes, kiwi fruit, a pineapple piece, an orange slice, and a cherry with the latter symbol offering the highest payout. You need at least three of a kind of any of these symbols for a payout.
The Wild symbol is the same in both modes and is the slot’s logo. It substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter, which is the colourful text in both modes. You will get a payout with a minimum of two Scatter symbols, while three is required to trigger the Free Spins feature – this feature differs in each mode.
Fruit vs Candy features
Switching between the modes in itself is considered to be a feature to the slot, and this comes into play in the Free Spins bonus.
In both modes you will find the Goodie Bag feature which is triggered at random following a spin which doesn’t payout, and here you are awarded with a random cash prize – almost as though you won on that spin.
There is also the Sugar Rush Bonus which occurs in both modes randomly, following a non-winning spin. Here, all high value symbols will pay a cash prize, plus just one Scatter will trigger the Free Spins feature.
As you can see, you can either trigger the Free Spins feature via this mode with the one Scatter, or by spinning three Scatters in the base game, and this is where the mode you’ve been playing in comes in to effect.
If you’re playing in the Fruit mode, you will be awarded with a random number of free spins with the Cash Stash feature activated. Here, all low value symbols are removed every time they appear on a spin giving you a better chance at big payouts. They also award a random amount of cash, which is added to the Stash, every time this occurs. At the end of the Free Spins feature this will be added to your overall total win. The number of free spins depends on how many low paying symbols there have been allocated to the bonus round.
If you’ve been playing in the Candy mode when triggering the Free Spins feature you will be awarded free spins with the Sweet Reels feature enabled. This see’s a stack of candy symbols on a random reel which will stick around for the duration of the spins. Also any Wilds which will appear will turn into Stacked Wilds, or as we liked to call them Wild Reels. The free spins continue until all 5 reels have transformed into Sweet Reels, of you have played for 50 free spins. If the latter is the case, you score an additional prize.
Now all you have to do is determine which mode you want to play in.
Soundtrack and graphics of Fruit vs Candy
The audio of this title is light and airy but it gave us a bit of a headache after a while. There’s the mechanical sounds of the slots you hear at land-based casinos in the background, but we muted this via the options. The graphics are quite simple, which you may be a fan of. The Candy mode reminds us of the Bridesmaids slot, while the Fruit mode mirrors the Fruit Shop title by Net Entertainment. There’s a few animations involved – such as the Wild symbol lighting up when it appears – but that’s about it.
Our thoughts on Fruit vs Candy by Microgaming
Microgaming blew our minds when it released the two mode slot Lost Vegas, and while this has followed with the same format it just isn’t as exciting – unless you are a health nut and feeling a bit naughty in the Candy mode. We like there’s two bonus features which can occur during the base game, and we triggered the Fruit Free Spins feature where we scored a good payout.
